Each of the three TeraNet nodes will be equipped with an optical system that will enable bidirectional optical communication with low earth orbit laser communication equipped spacecraft. This optical communication technique relies on transmitting and receiving fast intensity modulated pulses of light, using optical on-off keying. TeraNet is designed to be spacecraft agnostic – having the ability to optically communicate with multiple spacecraft throughout the project lifetime. TeraNet will be CCSDS 141/142 compliant with the option to upgrade to SDA compliance.
